The world is full of gimmicks that distract us from the important things.

There are the new, hot apps for your phone. The never ending stream of social media updates and notifications. The emails pouring into our inboxes. The latest exercise fads and motion tracking bracelets and body metric scanners and … ugh!

Every single one of those new gimmicks require your time and energy. It’s one more thing to upload, track, recharge, wear, or remember to check in with daily (or more often!).

Before you start using the latest thing, ask yourself if the benefit outweighs the cost in your time, energy, and attention. I’d wager that many, if not most, are net losses.
